About
Olivia Michael is a journalist for Nashville’s dominant #1 station, WTVF NewsChannel 5. Among her first stories in Music City was the Christmas Day bombing of 2nd Avenue which destroyed one of the city’s busiest streets. She was there in the moments after flood waters washed away the small town of Waverly, killing 20 people. Her reporting followed the aftermath in the days and months that followed. Olivia was also among the first reporters on scene of the tragic Covenant School shooting, providing wall to wall broadcast coverage for hours. Her reporting is grounded in accuracy and compassion. Olivia is passionate about storytelling that uplifts, digs deep and sheds light on the important issues in her community.
Prior to Nashville, Olivia was an anchor and multimedia journalist at the duopoly WECP/WJHG in Panama City Beach, Florida. During her time in the Sunshine State she won several Florida News Awards (previously Associated Press awards) for her work, including the devastating aftermath of Category 5 Hurricane Michael, the FBI’s corruption probe of local elected officials, the 2020 panhandle wildfire outbreak and the run up to the 2020 Presidential Election. Her coverage of Covid testing sites was featured on MSNBC.
A New Jersey native, Olivia got her start in network newsrooms. She was a production assistant turned News Associate at CNBC’s flagship morning show, Squawk Box. There she worked in almost every facet of morning news - from producing segments, to building and triggering graphics in the control room, to managing high-profile guests in studio. Before that, Olivia learned the ropes as an intern at CNBC, MSNBC, the TODAY show and CNN.
Half Cuban, Olivia grew up in a multicultural household watching a blend of both Spanish and English-language news. When not working she enjoys spending time with her husband, her Husky named Skye and volunteering with local organizations.
